The Yucatan Peninsula is a limestone plateau formed by the dissolution of carbonate rocks. Underneath the rock plate are cave systems. These caves are varied; dry, semi-dry, or filled with fresh water from rain and salt water from the ocean. The entrances to the cave systems are openings we can access by land: CENOTES. When we scuba dive in cenotes, we visit the Mayan Underworld known as XIBALBÁ.
